A Joplin man purportedly nabbed March 27 in possession of more than $2,000 worth of aerial telecommunications cable stolen from a property near Sarcoxie waived a preliminary hearing Thursday on a felony theft charge.

Jordan T. Romero, 35, waived the hearing in Jasper County Circuit Court and was ordered bound over for trial by Judge Joseph Hensley. The court set June 26 for Romero's initial appearance in a trial division of the court.

According to a Jasper County sheriff's office report, a search warrant was served on Romero's home at 1105 S. Monroe Ave. in Joplin the day after the cable was reported stolen. A probable-cause affidavit indicates that Apple Air Tags placed on the stolen cable helped investigators locate and recover the cable.

Romero has been facing robbery, burglary and assault charges since 2019 in connection with a home-invasion robbery in Carterville and has a trial set for Sept. 24 in that case.

The defendant was sent to prison in 2015 for a shoplifting incident at a Joplin business that escalated into an assault and robbery and for a burglary at Joplin Powersports on East 32nd Street.
